Welcome to the Singapore Arts Festival 2007.
This year, as we mark its 30th anniversary, we invite audiences to renew their experience of the Festival with an exciting programme held in many venues across the island. Reflecting many of the things we love about the Festival, it continues to challenge artistic boundaries and stimulate artistic excellence.
Over the years, the Festival has been a key component of the Council's efforts to develop audiences, professionalise arts practice, and internationalise Singapore arts and artists. The Council is glad that the Festival has established a strong international standing and is known for its progressive and innovative outlook. Along the way, it has also spawned new interests in emerging forms and introduced many notable international groups not only to Singaporeans, but also brought local work to the attention of arts programmers from around the world.
All this would not have been possible without the strong support of our various partners from the people, private and public sectors. On behalf of the Council, I would like to extend our warmest gratitude to all our sponsors and supporters for their generous contributions. Over the years, it has made a tremendous difference in our efforts to develop the arts in Singapore. They have stood alongside us in the firm belief that the arts matter to people and society. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the audiences who have believed in the works we have presented in the past 20 Festivals.
Going forward, we will continue to engage audiences by making this national celebration of the arts affordable, accessible and enjoyable for all patrons.
