Many people feel that their lives also have their own soundtracks as well. And it was with that idea that we started creating Sing Song, and what have to share with you today is a communal collage, a string of the musical memories of many people's lives.
Through drama music, movement, and design we present a range of memories and reflections on life and music, inspired by real life accounts that people have shared with us, including the cast and creative team, as well as many individuals from the South East community. The show also has a lot truthful fiction, and you won't always know what is 'real' and what is not.
As you will soon see in the show, a bulk of the musical memories that have been shared with us relate to special relationships. So many of the stories relate to people's most passionate and painful moments in their lives, including break-ups and even the death of a loved one.
Today you will have the pleasure of 'meeting' the likes of Uncle Zouk the senior clubber, P, Ramlee the legend, Makcik Power the musical TV host, Gloria Estefan and her greatest fan, the ABBAcadabras, Moona the Makcik and King the failed musician, a hearing-impaired songwriter, the old friend trapped in a tape-recording, and many more loveable musical characters.
The play does not follow a particular story and is not intended to deliver a particular message, though we do hope we can bring you through a satisfying journey of some sort and that you can have the chance to enjoy yourself and reflect upon your own experiences.
We have done our best to gather and present a fair range of stories and musical tastes and styles from people of different walks of life, so we do hope that there is something in our show for everyone.
