Since its inception a decade ago, the Singapore Festival of Arts has led its audiences to higher expectations each year. This is an encouraging indication of the growing maturity and sophistication of the audiences. It also poses an increasing challenge to the Festival organisers.
The 1988 Festival promises to meet the challenge by breaking new ground with a full length Western opera. It will also give our own talents more exposure than the previous Festivals.
As the Festival enters its second decade, I am certain that we can look forward to even greater confidence in both programming and organisation, and that the Festival will continue to be a high point in the cultural life of the nation.
