This is a play about contemporary Singapore. It focuses on small things.
Watching Bumboat! is a little like going through a photo album. Each image or scene is complete in itself, but one is more telling, another more funny, another more disturbing. And — perhaps — who can make head or tail of that one!
Together, the scenes in Bumboat! amount to an impression of Singapore today. Nor a statistician’s view, nor a historian’s, nor even a city planner’s, but an artistic view. And this was simply the result of inviting a number of Singapore writers to dramatise a few personal perspectives of the world around them.
