Singapore based theater director Lewin Bernard sets to reimagine the art of storytelling by stretching the conventions of theatre, visuals and different performance genres through his art direction.
Early in his career, Lewin worked for leading labels including Disney (S.E.A), FOX TV, Nickelodeon as an actor. As a script writer, wrote plays for stage, education institutions and most notably for Singapore International Film Festival Award Night.
Lewin soon set his sights on directing. His body of work is incredibly diverse. His directing works include Noel Greig’s Rainbow’s Ending, Edward Bond’s - Tin Can People, Reginald Rose’s - 12 Angry Men, J.B. Priestley’s - An Inspector Calls, Joanne Ng’s – Awake with Nenek, Henrik Ibsen’s – Enemy of the People, Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle.
In 2015, Lewin was commissioned to direct Keith Tan’s - Light in the Dark by SG50 and Destiny the Musical written by Joanne Ng. Working with Singapore’s national art centre, The Esplanade, Lewin wrote and directed – Seven (Late Night Ghost Stories) Part 1 & 2, The Light, The Sound and The Narrative.
In 2019, Lewin directed a Dick Lee Production - Legends of Singapore at Gardens by the Bay for Singapore’s Bicentennial, a multi-disciplined piece which involved dance, ethnic music, acting and puppetry which was entirely rehearsed in C42.
