Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay‘s The Studios 2014 explores human nature – the beautiful, the grotesque and the in-between – with a season of new and restaged productions by Singapore artists. Themed Beautiful Beasts, the five ticketed and three non-ticketed productions in this season (17 April to 19 July 2014) seek to uncover how mankind finds meaning from inner conflict.
This season‘s works depict the diversity that exists in the Singapore theatre scene today. Esplanade has worked closely with many of these artists in past seasons of The Studios as well. The season comprises 30 performances which will take place in the Esplanade Theatre Studio.
Pearlyn Cai, Programming Officer, The Esplanade Co. Ltd, said, "The Studios is a platform for Singapore artists to create and present new, exciting and alternative theatre works. Many have chosen to premiere their new works at The Studios over the years. We also work with artists to restage important past works so that more may have the opportunity to experience them. A mutually developed foundation of trust forms the basis of these ongoing relationships with our artists."
The Studios is in its 11th year and is a platform that develops, produces and presents local theatre productions. By supporting Singapore artists through collaborations, coproductions, as well as restagings, The Studios offers a space for artists and the audience to dialogue and to reflect. As with past seasons, theatre practitioners and the public can also sign-up for a complementary series of ticketed and non-ticketed talks and workshops to gain further insights to the creative process of the productions or the views of the artists.
