A powerful drama of unparalleled passion, CHESSMASTER tells the story of a legendary chess-player, He Yun Qing (Sia Chuan). On his 60th birthday, he recounts a life that has been consumed by an obsession with chess. An obsession that had cost him the unforgettable love of Si Hui (Sharon Au), a love affair he had forsaken in his youth over the game. A loss which has haunted him ever since.

Facing unbearable loneliness in his old age, caused by the lack of any worthy opponent in chess, He Yun Qing makes the decision to give up chess. At this point, a gifted young chess-player, Si Yan, (Scott Lei) mysteriously appears as a challenger. While he strangely reminds He Yun Qing of his lost love, they face a death match to terrifying and tragic consequences.
