In Q:, veteran director Ang Gey Pin examines, together with the graduating cohort of Intercultural Theatre Institute (ITI), renowned Singapore works and the responses they engender today.
Taking off from the plays of Kuo Pao Kun (The Silly Little Girl And The Funny Old Tree; The Eagles And The Cat) and Lim Jen Erh (Three Families Blessings – originally a traditional Hokkien opera), the ensemble questions, confronts and investigates their own responses, finally presenting it to the audience – who witness it as a stripped back, bare bones and truthful theatre experience.
“The chosen scripts are our starting points of questioning, meeting and confronting. And the scripts are also our point of departure … I hope our attempts to encounter these past works will not be solely a celebratory moment to our history but verifiable with a renewed spirit on itself.”
