Rajkumar Thiagaras is an actor and playwright who works in both the English and Tamil theatre scenes. He has trained with Young & Wild (Wild Rice), Playwrights’ Cove and Devising with Actors and Playwrights (The Necessary Stage). His notable acting credits include 12 Angry Men (Avant Theatre), Anything Can Happen / Something Must Happen (Wild Rice) and The Year of No Return (The Necessary Stage) while his notable writing credits include Ashes, Ashes (Toy Factory Productions) and Chandramukhi (Avant Theatre). His short play Onthakan – The Blue Hour won the 3rd prize in the open category of the 24-Hour Playwriting Competition 2020 by T:>Works. He has also been a co-writer for works such as Rasanai: An Invitation to Appreciate (Brown Voices) and Yean (Avant Theatre). As a performer, Raj has ventured into physical theatre with works such as To Speak Quietly (Pink Gajah Theatre) and Before You Go by Danial Matin. He helmed the roles of co-devisor, actor and playwright for Never The Bride (The Necessary Stage), which was staged as part of the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2023. Raj was awarded the Avant Theatre Award in recognition of his contributions to Singapore Tamil theatre.
