Aswani Aswath is a bilingual writer who graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Literature and a minor in Theatre Studies. She holds a Masters of Arts (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London.

Aswani began her theatre training at Buds Youth Theatre (BYT) in 2010. As a former Writer-in-Residence for Buds Theatre Company, she wrote scripts for schools and community-based projects and conducted playwriting workshops for BYT. Her plays have also been performed at various festivals by the Esplanade, the Arts House, Wild Rice, T:>works and Ravindran Drama Group amongst others. In 2020, she completed the Playwrights’ Cove mentorship programme run by Haresh Sharma. Her recent play, Strawberry Girls, which was presented by A.Mirage, was a sold-out show.

Aswani also dabbles in screenwriting, having co-written the screenplays for Irandu and Maraiporul, which were produced by Mediacorp Vasantham.

On top of her artistic stints, Aswani teaches Literary Arts at the School of the Arts. Passionate about arts education, she steers her students to harness the power of storytelling to express themselves creatively and voice out their views on issues that matter to them.
