Once upon a time, when the Dragon Serpent ruled the Straits of Malacca, there was a young prince named Sang Nila. Unafraid of risking his life, he went in search of his beloved father who went missing during an adventure. The journey was plagued with ferocious waves created by the Dragon Serpent who was determined to rob the treasures of the ship. To save his people from the sinking ship, Sang Nila ordered for heavy objects to be discarded. This was done but to no avail. Finally, he lifted the last heavy object, the crown, and threw it into the sea. Magically, the sea was clamed and Sang Nila's ship sailed to a beautiful island nearby. He embared the island and spotted a majestic lion (Singa). Awed by its beauty and strength, Sang Nila named the island Singapura.
