Tidurlah Sayang is a beautiful and poignant one-woman monologue of a woman, Cik Pon, who is determined to keep her third pregnancy. Her first two pregnancies were terminated as a gesture of her undying love for Shaikh, the Arab father of her unborn children and whose household she tends to as a caretaker. With sublime subtlety, this play explores the myths and superstitions surrounding the Pontianak, the bloodthirsty spirit of a woman who had died during pregnancy. Tidurlah Sayang examines the psychological deterioration of a Malay woman under the demands of a sexist and patriarchal community.
