The tyrannical matriarch Bernarda announces that there will be an eight-year mourning period after the death of her husband and no one is allowed to leave the house. In the name of upholding the family honour, she rules over her house and five daughters with an iron fist, crushing their freedom and desires. Tensions flare when a handsome young man arrives at the scene. The House of Bernarda Alba is an all-female play that explores sexual and social equality.
