It is seven days after Dr Sun Yat Sen’s death. His second wife, Chen Cui Fen, sits, waiting for his ‘return’. She clings on to a watch which he left her in his will. She soon realises that time is not what it seems to be, that an image can be an imitation...
What happens when a woman loves too much? What happens when a man is too great? What happens beyond revolution?
This potent collaboration between The Necessary Stage and The Theatre Practice is inspired by the life and times of Dr Sun Yat Sen. Dr Sun spent much time in Singapore and Penang, plotting his 10 revolts against the Qing Dynasty. Always close by him was Penang-born Chen Cui Fen, his lover, confidante, housekeeper, messenger, and partner in revolution. But when the revolution succeeded in 1911, Chen Cui Fen decided not to go to Nanjing to be with Dr Sun where he was elected president.
A multilingual production that combines strong ensemble work, and an innovative and multimedia staging.
