The real "Lin Bo" and "Wang Min" are fugitives who create work from undisclosed locations to safeguard their identities and minimize exposure in a global climate when every border crossing is an opportunity for capture. As artistic leaders of the Xiong Collective (which has also never maintained a physical presence), they follow the teachings of their mentor, legendary dissident artist Yu Rong, who initiated a collaborative process they call "Embodiment."
Collaborating with SRT, playwright (Christopher Chen), and director (Ed Sylvanus Iskandar), they train actors to "embody" them as the real artists. By rigorously translating Lin Bo and Wang Min's actual rhetoric and speech patterns into physical behaviour, the actors transform into the original artists, playing them as real people until exposed by the play. This process allows the real actors to be authentically themselves, as well as the characters they play.
Caught is part of a body of work interpreting prompts words, phrases and sentences smuggled out of prison by Yu Rong, before his recent disappearance under mysterious circumstances.
