Shahrul Azhar Marekan is a dancer, choreographer and instructor in the Malay Dance scene. From 2012-2020, Shahrul was a part of Kres! Dancers and in 2019, he became the Artistic Director of the group. He directed his first contemporary dance production, Sayang, Sayang, Sayang, in 2019. This inspired a new drive and passion in creating and directing more dance productions. Since 2012, Shahrul has learned and danced under different senior choreographers such as Bib Mockram, Mohd Sharul, Ezadd Haikal and Mohd Azhar. He has also done a number of collaborations with different professional dance groups, such as, Atrika Dance Company, Artiste Seni Budaya, Perkumpulan Seni Singapura, Era Dance Theatre and Apsara Asia. Under the tutelage of Bib Mockram, Shahrul strives to not only gain choreographic tools but also theatre training to help elevate his creations. Notable performances include Malay CulturalFest launch for Projek Ujong Tanjong and choreography for Muara 2019.
