Princess Hang Li-Po, Chen Luo Han’s four-act operetta, continues the Society's tradition of staging operatic productions in Mandarin. Based on 2 episodes of the Sejarah Melayu set in 5th century Malacca, the operetta relates the story of the inter-racial marriage of the Chinese Princess to Sultan Mansur Shah, ruler of the Malaccan Sultanate and subsequently, of her martyrdom for her people. A poignant tale of romance between royalties from cross cultures, it speaks of inter-racial harmony and goodwill, and of loyalty to one's motherland.
