The play centres around 2 brothers, Hasrat and Sayat, who dream of sailing from their hometown to explore new horizons. Their fantasies of foreign lands, exciting adventures remain fantasies till Hasrat decides to act upon them and sail away, while Sayat remains behind.
Through their exchange of letters for the next 27 years, the audience is given a glimpse of the inner worlds of the two brothers. The anguish. anxiety and guilt which ensue from their separation and the breaking of one brother's promise serve as the focus of the play.
