The prologue shows us the abduction of Sita, wife of Rama, by the demon King, Ravana.

A year later, Rama has been looking for his childhood friend, Hanuman, to help him rescue Sita. Rama believes that Hanuman still has the superpowers he has as a child. However, Hanuman has lost his powers because he misused them for childish and foolish naughtiness. He lives in Monkey Town where he has a reputation for being a rogue who has a weakness for banana smoothies. He frequently gets into arguments with Stacey, another monkey who functions a bit like Hanuman's conscience.

When prodded, Hanuman recognises Rama as his former Lord and agrees to put together a team to rescue Sita. Hanuman visits and recruits his old friends Riley, Millie and Taylor.

There is a comedic interlude where the monkeys feast prior to setting out on their rescue mission. During this feast, things get a bit out of hand and Hanuman overdoes the banana smoothies. At the end of the feast, he confesses to Stacey that he doesn't have his powers anymore. She is shocked, but it is late and suggests that the team talk about what to do about it in the morning.

Hanuman has a nightmare. He is confronted with the foolishness of having squandered his specialness, but in the dream he also meets the vulture Sampati who, acting as a kind of spirit guide, explains to Hanuman that if he employs his powers to achieve good, they will return. He teaches Hanuman to fly again and shows him where Ravana has hidden Sita: in the city of Colom, on the island of Lanka.
