This initiative to narrate a verifiable and therefore objective and true story of our post is rooted in an understanding of history we inherited from our British colonial educators...

... This essay has suggested that much depends upon who the storyteller is, the audience for the story and the intention of that telling of the story. The "facts" which go into making the story of Singapore may be compared to the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle which are fitted to form one single picture. But they could also be like the seven pieces of the classic Chinese tangram, the qichan ban, which can be rearranged to form several hundred different figures.
