... This essay has suggested that much depends upon who the storyteller is, the audience for the story and the intention of that telling of the story. The "facts" which go into making the story of Singapore may be compared to the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle which are fitted to form one single picture. But they could also be like the seven pieces of the classic Chinese tangram, the qichan ban, which can be rearranged to form several hundred different figures.
