On the second day of their marriage, Qiu Hu was taken away by a soldier to serve in the army, leaving a teary Mei Ying.
Ten years later, Li Da Hu who has long lusted after Mei Ying is contemplating to force Mei Ying's father for his daughter's hand as the latter is his debtor. With her intelligence, Mei Ying not only saved herself from a forced marriage, but also made a fool of Li Da Hu. Meanwhile, Qiu Hu having been promoted to a magistrate is on his way home. At this point of the story, an introduction of a mysterious character spoils everybody's hope of a conventional ending.
